Often referred to as the Holstein of dairy goats because of its superior milk production, the Saanen is the largest of the dairy goat breeds and the most popular worldwide. Â A mature doe weighs 135 pounds or more; a mature buck weighs 170 pounds or more. Â The Saanen is a Swiss breed and animals are white to light cream in color with an extremely mild temperament. Â They are also very adaptable and can do well in almost any environment. Â The Saanen holds the world record for milk production with over 6600 lbs in 305 days.
