Nigerian Dwarf

Nigerian Dwarfs are an African breed.  This miniature dairy breed produces less milk and meat than a full-size goat, but is ideal for a small family with a small backyard, provided the goats come from milking stock and not pet stock.  The Nigerian Dwarf has smaller teats than a full-size goat, so milking may be difficult for someone with large hands.  Nigerian Dwarfs come in all goat colors.  Mature does weigh 30 to 50 pounds; bucks weigh 35 to 60 pounds.  Nigerian Dwarfs are known for their high butterfat content.  During the milking season, the butterfat content can reach as high as about 10%, tho on average it’s about 6.3%.  Some say that milk from a Nigerian Dwarf tastes sweeter than other goat milk because of its higher butterfat content.
